Corry is a city located in Erie County, Pennsylvania. It is the second largest city in Erie County, right behind Erie, PA. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, Corry, PA became famous for manufacturing Climax locomotives. As of the 2014 U.S. Census, the population of Corry, PA is approximately 6,457.
The area that is present-day Corry, PA was established after tracks from the Atlantic and Great Western Railroad intersected with tracks from the Sunbury and Erie Railroad. This area of land, referred to as “Atlantic and Erie Junction,” was owned by Hiram Cory. Cory sold a portion of this land to the Atlantic and Great Western in 1861. The railroad in turn built a ticket office at this junction and named it after Cory, but was misspelled as Corry. The railroads and oil industry carried Corry, PA through an economic boom in the 19th century.
